Tori Amos
Celebrating the release of her latest album Native Invader, Tori Amos is back on tour with dates planned through December 3. Tori will make stops in Toronto, Boston, New York, Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans and more.
The U.S. dates follow a stint in Europe, which kicked off in Cork, Ireland.
Native Invader is Tori’s 15th studio album, released September 8, 2017. The album spawned the singles “Cloud Riders,” “Reindeer King” and “Up the Creek.”
Tori began composing instrumental pieces at the age of five, when she won a full scholarship to Peabody Institute. She was the youngest person to ever attend the school, but was expelled at age 11 for “musical insubordination,” according to Rolling Stone.
Before launching a solo career, Tori was part of the pop group Y Kant Tori Read.
Tori has had several charted singles, including “Silent All These Years,” “God,” “Crucify,” “Caught a Lite Sneeze,” “Cornflake Girl,” “Spark” and “Professional Widow.” The song “A Sorta Fairytale” was the singer’s most successful single in the U.S.
Tori’s first solo album Little Earthquakes was her commercial breakthrough. The album entered the UK charts at number 15. Her second album Under the Pink reached the No. 12 position on the Billboard 200, but was more successful in the UK.
Boys for Pele, her third album, hit No. 2 in the UK and the US.
Her next albums To Venus and Back and From the Choirgirl Hotel marked a departure from Tori’s classic piano and acoustic sound. The albums featured elements on dance, electronica and vocal washes.
In 2012, Tori released a concept album called Scarlet’s Walk, which explored her alter ego. Tori explores a range of topics in the album, including Native American history, the history of the US and the American people, masochism, homophobia, pornography and misogyny. The album peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold from the RIAA.
Her next two albums The Beekeeper and American Doll Posse both received favorable reviews.
In 2008, Tori ended her contract with Epic Records and began operating independently. She signed a “joint venture” deal with Universal Republic Records shortly after and would release her tenth studio album Abnormally Attracted to Sin.
The initial inspiration for her latest album Native Invader came from a trip through the Great Smoky Mountains, the home of her Native American ancestors. But two major events changed the album’s course: Donald Trump becoming president of the United States, and her mother suffering a stroke.
